Needle & Syringe Program

Our Needle and Syringe Program provides free needles and syringes, sharps disposal containers, sterile swabs, and sexual health products to all members of the community.

Our Needle and Syringe Program operates at our Hawthorn and Doncaster East clinics during business hours. People can also return used needles and syringes for safe disposal. The Program remains open and staff will collect the equipment for you.

We can also help you to access naloxone (Narcan®) and show you how to use this medication. Naloxone is used to ‘reverse’ the effects of an opioid overdose. You can find out more about naloxone on the Penington Institute website.

After hours access to syringes and needles

For after-hours access to needles and syringes, please call CHOPER on 0414 266 203. This outreach service covers a large area of the Eastern Metro Region between 7.30pm and 11.30pm every night of the year.
